WOYE Chapter 39 [Fourth Day Part One]

Editor : reii

The clock had already struck eight times but everyone remained seated at the long table, no one got up.

Dark circles hung under Yang Song’s eyes. She didn’t wear any foundation so blemishes like small scars and acne marks were all exposed, and combined with her dishevel hair, she looked especially haggard.

“It’s eight o’clock…” Ding Zihui hesitated, then stopped talking.

Everyone looked out the door, wondering if the remaining people would return. In contrast, Liu Xin, the one with the lightest psychological burden, swiped his card eagerly and sat in a hurry, brimming with energy.

“No need to wait,” he smiled faintly as he fiddled with the watch on his left wrist. “They won’t come back.”

“Shut up!” Yang Song glared at him, “You’ll definitely be voted wolf today. If you run away now, you can still live on this island for three more days.”

Liu Xin tidied up his hair and replied, still smiling, “Why should I run? I may not be the one who dies today.”

Ding Zihui said softly, “Don’t make excuses. We saw it last night. You killed Li Sinian.”

“He jumped into the sea himself, what could I do, you can’t blame me,” Liu Xin straightened his cuffs and collar and gave her a crooked grin, “obviously, the witch had the antidote.”

His attire was very strange today. He was wearing a very stiff collared shirt on this hot and stormy day and had shaved clean. He was even more eye-catching than all the girls present.

Niu Xinyan and the boy remained silent. Niu Xinyan sat frozen in her chair, a suspicious bruise at the corner of her mouth, her hair loosely pulled back behind her head, a few strands of hair at her temples fallen astray, making her overall appearance look gaunt.

The long table, which used to be full of people, now only seated five of them.

It was five minutes before the quarter past eight deadline. Ding Zihui’s wriggled her toes inside her shoes while Yang Song rubbed her fingers.

The muffled sound of thunder rolled through the windows with a crash, curtains were swept high up by the wind, and the large crystal chandelier was blown about, creating tinkling sounds. Ding Zihui shivered and hugged herself.

Liu Xin looked up and smiled eerily. “There are others, don’t worry.”

It was unknown what went wrong with the chandelier, but it flickered twice. Combined with the lightning and thunder rolling outside, it raised everyone’s hackles. The entire villa was like a lone boat in the vast ocean, swaying in the wind and rain, the hull at mercy to the rolling waves.

Suddenly, there were voices from upstairs.

Everyone looked up to see the couple making their way down the stairs, one after another, both wearing usually gloomy expressions on their faces.

“You were inside?” Yang Song turned around, “Why are you only coming down now? We were worried thinking something happened to you.”

The two swiped their cards. Du Wei lowered his head, said nothing and sat down silently. Chen Hui smiled and explained to Yang Song, “Overslept.” She then sat next to her boyfriend.

It became seven people.

There was only one minute remaining until a quarter past eight and even Yang Song had given up waiting for Li Fang.* She sighed: “It’s too late, even if they come back, they won’t have time to swipe the card…”

(T/N : Yes the author wrote it like that [连杨颂都熄了等李方二人的心, Lián yáng sòng dōu xīle děng lǐ fāng èr rén de xīn] so that is the official ship’s name I guess XD )

Not even a second after she said this, the heavy brass villa door was kicked open with a great force, the salty sea breeze wrapped in torrential rain instantly poured in, dampening everyone’s faces.

She saw Fang Daichuan holding his ID card and rushing in as quick as a flash, followed by Li Sinian.

Without looking at the other’s expressions, Yang Song pushed aside the table and stood up, pointed at the machine and shouted, “Hurry! No time! Swipe!”

Fang Daichuan rushed to the machine and pressed his fingerprint.

Li Sinian followed closely. He had just retrieved his card when the clock upstairs struck “dang-“.

“Everybody open your eyes, it’s daytime.* There are currently 9 surviving players on the field. Players, please take your place.” The machine said with an electronically synthesized sound.

(T/N : This is a line from Werewolf game, the moderator are supposed to be the one who said this and this indicated the end of night round)

Li Sinian looked up and observed everyone’s expressions at the long table, but he had missed the timing. Everyone withdrew their strange looks and hid their expressions well. Li Sinian retracted his gaze, walked to the end of the long table, and gently pulled out the chair.

“What happened to you?” Yang Song couldn’t hold back and ask, “After you jumped into the sea last night, we waited on the shore for a long time and didn’t see you come out. I thought…”

Fang Daichuan and Li Sinian were drenched and covered in aquatic plants. When Fang Daichuan lowered his head, he could catch the smell of decay wafting from himself. He rubbed his face and sighed. “It’s a long story…”

“Please take your seats!” shouted the loudspeaker. Fang Daichuan didn’t know what to say anyway. What happened last night was too tortuous to be explained in a few words. He sat down heavily on the chair and stopped talking.

The machine instructed. “Du Chaosheng died last night, please begin speaking from the left of the deceased.”

On Du Chaosheng’s left was Chen Hui.

Chen Hui lowered her head to play with the tablecloth, her expression wasn’t very good, and Fang Daichuan couldn’t tell what happened to her. During last night’s dramatic event, he hadn’t seen the couple from beginning to end and he didn’t know what happened between them. Chen Hui kept silent.

“Speak.” Ding Zihui softly encouraged.

Chen Hui trembled slightly. She whispered quickly, “I don’t know what happened, I didn’t kill Du Chaosheng.”

“Who cares about Du Chaosheng? Vote Liu Xin today!” Yang Song interrupted her, “We saw with our own eyes last night that Liu Xin poisoned Li Sinian and Fang Daichuan saved Li Sinian.”

Fang Daichuan couldn’t help but nod. Although Li Sinian insisted last night that he should not vote for Liu Xin, Fang Daichuan was irritated when he saw Liu Xin’s face. Scenes from last night kept replaying in his mind. Liu Xin laughed wildly and injected a venom into Li Sinian’s ankle.

I don’t care whether he’s a wolf or not, Fang Daichuan gritted his teeth and thought. Let’s vote him out first. Thinking this way, he glanced at Li Sinian.

Li Sinian was playing with a pen cap.

He pushed the cap gently with his right hand middle finger, pushing it on and off, pushing it on and off, making a clattering sound.

When people think, they tend to subconsciously repeat small actions, such as shaking legs, rubbing fingers, or rotating pens. Fang Daichuan glanced at him, Li Sinian should be thinking fast. The book in front of him was spread open but it was blank. Fang Daichuan asked himself if his brain wasn’t as good as Li Sinian’s. The book spread out in front of Fang Daichuan was full of handwriting that only he could read.

Li Sinian’s pen and book had not been moved, they had always been in his seat. When other people listened to everyone’s statements, they would inevitably write down one or two things. Some carried the notebook with them, and some would write a lot just to tear the paper afterward. Only Li Sinian relied on his own brain to remember everyone’s actions and statements. There was nothing on his book.

What is he thinking? Fang Daichuan stared at Li Si’s long straight fingers, becoming distracted. For some reason, he suddenly recalled his strong fingers on his wrist in the cold water.

He had been up almost all night, his strength had been depleted in two dives, all he could see before his eyes was the warmth of the man next to him in the sea, the firm grip of his fingers that would not let go, and the life-saving air coming in.

It was Li Sinian’s turn to speak, and Fang Daichuan quickly recovered from his daydream.

Li Sinian did not beat about the bush. He went straight to the point: “I am the seer. I checked Liu Xin last night, Liu Xin is in the villager faction.”

His words started chain reaction, the girls looked at each other, then looked at him in disbelief.

Li Sinian firmly said. “Yesterday an old lady was voted wrong and now the villager faction can no longer afford to lose more people. If today you vote for the wrong person, it will be harder to vote for a wolf during the day. Don’t screw up this vote. Believe me, Liu Xin is in the villager faction.”

(T/N : Poor Boss Du, nobody seems to care about him… except for the murderer of course)
